Musicology School of Music LLC has been nominated for Music School of the Year by the international organization M.A.S.S. Eight music schools from across the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Asia will compete for the title of School of The Year. Co-Owner Eric Brown will be presenting on behalf of Musicology on April 26th in Columbia South Carolina. The winner of the contest will win $10,000 dollars and will receive a personal visit / consultation at the winners school from the director of M.A.S.S. Musicology has been nominated for this award due to the explosive growth over the last year. In less than one calendar year Musicology doubled their student enrollment. Co-Owner Eric Brown says, “ We are honored to even be in this contest. I am excited to present to fellow music school owners what we have achieved in the last year. I am even more excited to learn what the other seven schools are doing to further their success.” To prepare for this contest, we need your help. We are asking for students to give video testimonials about their experience here at Musicology. Students / Parents are asked to video themselves with their phones and answer three questions. 1. What’s your favorite thing about Musicology? 2. How is Musicology a fun learning environment? 3. Compared to other Schools in our area, why did you choose Musicology? Student / Parents can send the videos to office@musicologyschoolofmusic.com 2015 Calendar Musicology School of Music April 7th - 11th Vanessa’s Vacation April 4th Musicology/Paul Mitchell fundraiser for the Gary Sinise Foundation April 20-25th Eric’s Vacation April 25th School of the Year Presentation in Columbia S.C April 24th – 26th Panoply May 3rd Musicology School of Music Anniversary / Open House June 6th Family Fun Expo VBC July 18th & 19th Summer Student Show Case August 2nd Customer Appreciation Day / Open House September 7th Closed Labor Dar October 3rd Madison Street Festival October 31st Halloween Room a Treat / Rock Band Costume Party Nov 25th - 27th Closed Thanksgiving Break December 6th & 7th Christmas Student Showcase Times TBA December 24 - 26 Closed for Christmas Holiday Summer Lesson Info Summer is quickly approaching and we know that some people choose to take the summer off, so we wanted to remind everyone of our withdrawal policy. · If you choose to withdraw, you must let us know by the 15th day of your last month you are attending. If you do not let us know by the 15th, you will be charged for the next month and will be expected to attend. · If you choose to withdraw, you forfeit your time slot and it will most likely be filled when you return. We are constantly signing up students and several of our teachers have no availability or very limited availability left. · You will have to pay the $25.00 registration fee to get back on the schedule when you return. Keep in mind that we offer unlimited make-up classes. If you do not want to give up your spot, but do want to take some time off for summer, you can just make those classes up at your convenience. (e.g.): Problem: Jane’s son, John, takes drum lessons at 4:00 Wednesdays. This works perfect with their schedule because John is involved in Baseball, Boy Scouts, Football, and other things as well. Wednesday is the only day that the other activities don’t meet. If they give up their spot for the summer, they probably won’t be able to get that spot back when school starts back. Solution: Jane lets the drum instructor know that they want to take a break in June to go on vacation and relax. The drum instructor keeps them in their 4:00 Wednesday time slot and just gives them 4 make-up credits so that they can take those classes at their convenience, even before summer begins! The make-up credits are good for an entire year. Make-up classes are taught throughout the week. The make-up class schedule is up for the month at the beginning of each month. You just go to our website, www.musicologyschoolofmusic.com, and click on the “makeup classes” tab. You will then see the classes that are offered that week. If you don’t see the class you want on the schedule, just scroll forward using the button labeled “week” at the top of the page until you find a class that works with your schedule. You then click “sign in” to the class you want and enter your/your child’s name. It’s that simple and you can keep your regular meeting time on the schedule! Student of the Month: Shreya Singh 1. What are the things you like most about teaching? I love getting to be a positive influence in my students' lives. To be a good musician, it requires dedication and patience. These skills will help in every aspect of life, not just music. 2. How do you inspire students to practice more? I try to stress that they are capable of anything. Many times, I'll play something that the student thinks is cool or hard and I let them know that with training through practice, they are fully capable of playing anything that I or any other musician has the ability to play. 3. What part do you feel that the recital experience plays in a students’ development? Recitals and concerts are huge for two reasons. First off, it gives the students confidence. The more you get up and play in front of a crowd, the easier it becomes. The better you get at it, the more confident you become and, again, that confidence can help in many aspects of life. Secondly, it exposes the students' weaknesses. You can mess up a lot in the practice room and it doesn't really matter. When you mess up with a lot of people watching and listening, it really inspires you to try harder next time. 4. What is your favorite type of music? I love jazz and funk. I love horns; saxophones, trumpets, trombones, flute, etc. they add so much depth, punch, and sensitivity to music. Free Lesson Gift Certificate Thank you Jack for referring your Dad Drew
