I like to ignite the spark of the love of music and the excitement of sharing that gift with others. How do you inspire students to practice more? I always try to remind my students that practice doesn’t make perfect - practice makes progress. The more you practice, the more you will excel. What part do you feel that playing or singing in a group has in a student's development? I love the feeling of being “one voice” that shares a common idea or emotion. Singing together helps you and the others who sing with you. What is your favorite type of music? I would have to say Classical or Broadway. It would be impossible to choose between the two. What methods will you use to teach your students? I will explore my students’ individual gifts, whether it’s singing or playing the piano. I will incorporate scales and fundamentals in to music that they love. What are your hobbies, besides music? I like to go to the movies, hang out with my family and participate in community theatre. Teacher of the Month: Autumn Frey What are the things you like the most about teaching? There are so many things that I love about teaching music! Music is beauty, and sharing that beauty with my students is amazing! Spending time with people and teaching them about something I am passion-ate about is one of the best things about being a music teacher! Sharing the things I've learned and discovered about music makes me happy. How do you inspire students to practice more? I think that hearing words of encouragement is a huge motivator for any person to work at something they are trying to accomplish! Games, memory aids, playing songs that students are passionate about, and recording them so they can hear how wonderful they sound are just a few of the things I love to do to encourage students to keep up the good work! What part do you feel that playing or singing in a group has in a student's development? Playing an instrument or singing in a group has so many benefits! Group lessons are so much fun! Everyone can participate and get creative! Students tend to learn faster in a group setting and their performance skills grow quickly! There is a level of comfort in playing your instrument or singing with other people that enjoy the same things you do. What is your favorite type of music? Oh my! My favorite type of music is hard to pinpoint because all music has an appeal to me! In my quiet moments, I very much enjoy classical, jazz, gospel, bluegrass, blues, and pop music. When life is a bit more exciting, I am a huge fan of country, rock, hip-hop, disco and swing. It's all good! Autumn will begin with Musicology in August and will be teaching all levels of Piano and Beginner Violin. Welcome to Musicology, Autumn! Musicology School of Music |
