Important Dates: Eric's Vacation: Family Fun Festival & Expo June 9-15 at VBCC: June 21 Vanessa's Vacation: June 20-26 Summer Recital: June 28 and 29 Jennifer's Vacation: June 21-26 CLOSED July 4th What’s Happening at Musicology It’s official, it’s SUMMER TIME. There are many different things going on during the summer months and the schedule at Musicology School of Music is no exception. Musicology will be offering summer camps in Kindermusik, Intro to Guitar, and Intro to Percussion. These camps are wonderful opportunities for your student to try a new instrument or for your younger child to become exposed to a great musical experience. There are a few slots still open for some of these camps. If you are interested please give the office a call at 256-325-6099. Musicology has also been asked to provide entertainment and a Kindermusik demonstration class at the Family Fun Expo Saturday June 21st. Please come and support your fellow students and enjoy a day of fun. For more information about this event please go to http://www.familyfunfesthsv.com. Upcoming Recitals: Our next recitals are planned for Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th. They will be in the Musicology Recital Hall and are tentatively planned for 4 and 6pm on Saturday and 2 and 4pm on Sunday. We encourage everyone to participate, but participation is not mandatory. If you or your child wants to participate, this is what we need you to do: Go to our website, and click on the “Summer Recital” tab. Pick the recital time that you want and an estimation of how many guests you will have and submit it to us. The recital hall will hold about 80 people comfortably, so seating is somewhat limited. If there are not enough people signed up to warrant having recitals on either day, we will consolidate down to one recital at 5pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday. We are asking everyone to bring one canned good in place of admission, which will be donated to Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen And Thrift Store. For more info about Rose of Sharon visit their website. www.roseofsharonsoupkitchen.org Band Classes Musicology has started a new band class. The Folk Pop Class will be held on Saturdays from 3-4. So if you would like to sing or play in a new group please call the office and ask to speak to Jonathan. We also have openings for keyboard, bass guitar, and electric guitar in our other rock bands. If you are interested please call the office and ask for Eric. We hope this summer is filled with lots of fun and amazing memories. If we can help you in any way do not hesitate to call the office at 256-325-6099 or text the office at 256-258-8621. Teacher of the Month - Derrik Anderson What do you teach? I teach drum set. What is the best part of teaching? To see a student progress from knowing nothing to playing an entire song is the best part of teaching to me. What is your favorite type of music and why do you enjoy it? I love reggae music the most. It’s hard to be stressed out while listening to Bob Marley. Very relaxing. Musicology School of Music Welcomes Derrik to our teaching faculty! Summer Attendance Summer is here and we know that some people choose to take the summer off, so we wanted to remind everyone of our withdrawal policy. • If you choose to withdraw, you must let us know by the 15th day of your last month you are attending. If you do not let us know by the 15th, you will be charged for the next month and will be expected to attend. • If you choose to withdraw, you forfeit your time slot and it will most likely be filled when you return. We are constantly signing up students and several of our teachers have no availability or very limited availability left. • You will have to pay the $25.00 registration fee to get back on the schedule when you return. Keep in mind that we offer unlimited make-up classes. If you do not want to give up your spot, but do want to take some time off for summer, you can just make those classes up at your convenience. (e.g.): Problem: Jane’s son, John, takes drum lessons at 4:00 Wednesdays. This works perfect with their schedule because John is involved in Baseball, Boy Scouts, Football, and other things as well. Wednesday is the only day that the other activities don’t meet. If they give up their spot for the summer, they probably won’t be able to get that spot back when school starts back. Solution: Jane lets the drum instructor know that they want to take a break in June to go on vacation and relax. The drum instructor keeps them in their 4:00 Wednesday time slot and just gives them 4 make-up credits so that they can take those classes at their convenience, even before summer begins! The make-up credits are good for an entire year. Make-up classes are taught on Saturdays. The make-up class schedule is up for the entire calendar year. You just go to our website, www.musicologyschoolofmusic.com, and click on the “makeup classes” tab. You will then see the classes that are offered that week. If you don’t see the class you want on the schedule, just scroll forward using the button labeled “week” at the top of the page until you find a class that works with your schedule. You then click “sign in” to the class you want and enter your/your child’s name. It’s that simple and you can keep your regular meeting time on the schedule! Student of the Month: Marko Milenkovic What instrument do you play? Piano, I will start baritone this fall. How long have you taken lessons? 2 years What are your hobbies, besides music? Programming and soccer. What is your favorite food? Nutella! What is the coolest thing you’ve learned in your lessons in the past 3 months? The song “The Entertainer.” What do you like about your teacher? He’s funny and techy. Welcome, New Students!
