Family Fun Fest June 11th 2016 
 
Musicology School of Music has been asked to return to the VBC on June 11th to help with the entertainment for the Family Fun Fest. Our Rock Bands will be performing on the Main Stage in the afternoon, but our students have been asked to perform all day in not one, but two locations!
Musicology has been asked to perform at the two train stops for the children that will be waiting for the train. So in essence, we will be street musicians for the event.  Students will be performing at one train stop then at the other. So most of our students will be performing twice! .

Policies & Procedures
 
With the summer months upon us, we have received a lot of questions about our Policies and Procedures in regards to rescheduling missed lessons, Autopay schedules, and withdrawing from lessons. Below are some key points regarding these items, but we will be emailing everyone a copy of the full policies and procedures for your reference.
 
Missed Lessons: For any lessons missed by a teacher, the school will attempt to provide a substitute teacher. If a substitute teacher is unavailable, a private makeup lesson with the teacher will be scheduled promptly. For any lesson missed by a student, the School holds one-hour group make-up classes on Saturdays. The classes are age and level appropriate and are held between the hours of 10 am and 5pm. To sign up for a make-up class, contact the office or sign up online at www.musicologyschoolofmusic.com. Do not contact the instructor for a date and time. So, we do not schedule private make-up lessons for lessons missed by the student - this can create a scheduling nightmare and can take that spot away from potential new students as well.
 
Autopay Schedules: We allow you to choose whether your payment comes out of your account on the 1st or the 15th of the month as a courtesy to you for your monthly banking and billing needs. Regardless of which day you choose, the payment that is coming out is for that current month (i.e.:  Payments withdrawn on June 15th are for the month of June 1st-30th, not for June 15th - July 15th).
 
Cancelling/Withdrawing from Lessons: To discontinue lessons and to discontinue charges to your account, please fill out a withdrawal form and submit it to the office before the 15th of the last month you will be taking lessons, regardless of which day you choose for Autopay. We do not prorate tuition for the last month’s lessons. For example: if you wish to discontinue lessons at the end of June, you would need to submit your withdrawal form before June 15th so as not to be charged for the month of July. If you do not get your form in before the 15th, you will be charged for the month of July as well. This allows us to give our teachers at least a 2-week notice, and to make sure we don’t make any accounting mistakes.

Musicology School of Music LLC is proud to announce the hiring of our new Drum, Piano, & Guitar instructor
 
Christopher Barnes, born and raised in Huntsville, AL, was first introduced to music on the piano at the age of seven by his grandmother and took lessons for two years. He later learned to play the drum set, bass guitar, and acoustic guitar. In his high school years, He began teaching guitar/drum lessons and would continue for three years, and joined his church choir. It was then when he decided to focus more on songwriting. During college he spent an entire summer sharpening his skills with the Cadets Drum and bugle Corps (a top 5 corps). When he returned, he spent his time as a street performer at Bridge Street Town Centre and performing at restaurants in his area. Chris Barnes combines his old time soul influences with modern music. ​

Teacher of the Month:
JONATHAN SLATER
1.  What are the things you like the most about teaching? I really enjoy both helping student's learn music they love, and also helping them grow as a musician. For me it's not simply about teaching someone to learn to play a song, but is also about helping him or her understand music more thoroughly.  If a student is willing to learn the theory, timing, techniques, and other aspects of a song, they will be more satisfied with their playing.  It will also advance their overall musicianship better.  
 
2.  How do you inspire students to practice more? I try to give my student's things to practice that are fun, challenging, and doable.  A big part of a student's interest in practice is allowing them to work on or towards music they like.  Sometimes its a little bit trickier to get them to practice things like scales and exercises.  So in those cases I try to make practice more interesting by showing them how scales and exercises will allow a student to accomplish more difficult things.
 
3.  What part do you feel that playing or singing in a group has in a student's development? Student Showcases are motivating and a place for student's to share their hard work.  When you have to play with other people, or perform for people, it motivates students to work hard so they play well.  On top of that, recitals are a chance for a student to share their work with someone other than their teacher.
 
4.  What is your favorite type of music? It would be hard for me to pick just one.  I really enjoy many styles and bands. This year I've listened to mostly Appalachian bluegrass and blues rock.

5.    What is the coolest thing you’ve learned in your lessons in the past 3 months?  “Indian Drum” on guitar, and “To Make You Feel My Love” on voice were my favorite songs that I learned in my lessons.
6.    What do you like about your teacher? They are funny and make lessons fun!
